When and what was the very first SMS ever sent?

The first SMS (message) was sent on December 3, 1992 by engineer Neil Papworth, former developer of Sema Group Telecoms. Cell phones had no keyboards back then, so Papworth had to type the message on a computer. Papworth’s text was: “Merry Christmas” and was successfully sent to Richard Jarvis at Vodafone.
