The New Year’s celebration was established by the Emperor Julius Caesar in 46 BC, when he instituted January 1 as the first day of the year. In ancient Greece on the other hand, New Year’s Eve was not celebrated, as for the Greeks, the beginning of each month, which was called “noumenia”, was of greater importance.

As it stands, New Year’s Eve was extended throughout the Roman Empire and of course to Greece!
